Manaswini Maharana: Odisha's Windsurfing Trailblazer

At just 17 years old in 2009, Manaswini Maharana joined Dr. Sabir Bux as an assistant lady swim instructor, marking the beginning of an extraordinary journey. Although her initial role was in swimming, it was her exposure to windsurfing that would transform her life and make a significant impact on the sport in Odisha.

Under the guidance of Dr. Bux, Manaswini embraced windsurfing with remarkable dedication. Her relentless pursuit of excellence propelled her to become India's top windsurfer in her age category. Over her illustrious career, she amassed an impressive collection of accolades, including over 50 gold medals, 70 silver medals, and 23 bronze medals.

Manaswini's contributions to the sport earned her the esteemed title of "Mother of Windsurfing in Odisha," reflecting her role in pioneering and popularizing the sport in the region. Her achievements did not go unnoticed, and she was honored as the brand ambassador for Mahanadi Coalfields Limited for two years, further highlighting her influence and prominence.

Dubbed the "Surfing Queen" by many, Manaswini Maharana is also affectionately known as the "MaoCom of Odisha," a testament to her ability to balance her professional success with motherhood. Even after becoming a mother to a baby girl, she continued to excel, winning a gold medal at a national event—a true reflection of her resilience and unwavering passion for windsurfing.
