Debasmita Kar: Rising Star in Windsurfing

About Me:

I am Debasmita Kar, a 17-year-old student currently in the 12th grade, studying Commerce at Christ College, Cuttack. Alongside my academic pursuits, I am passionate about windsurfing, a sport that has become an integral part of my life. My journey in windsurfing began in early 2024, and since then, I have dedicated myself to mastering this exhilarating sport.

My Sailing Journey:

My adventure with sailing started in March 2024, under the guidance of Dr. Sabir Bux, a veteran SCUBA diver and the founder of the Odisha Yachting Association (OYA). Prior to this, I overcame my fear of water by learning to swim at Silver City Boat Club, guided by Dr. Bux in February 2024. This foundation allowed me to dive into windsurfing with confidence.

Achievements:

YAI Multiclass Regatta 2024 held at Girgaon Chowpati, Mumbai from 20 to 24 March 2024. My first national competition, where I secured a gold medal in the Under -19 girls category, marking the beginning of my competitive journey.

All India Windsurfing & Kiteboarding Championship 2024 (Morjim Beach, Goa): Achieved gold in the Under-19 girls category.

All India Open NAVY Windsurfing Championship 2024 (5-10 June, Indian Naval Watermanship Training Center, Vasco da Gama, Goa): Earned a bronze medal in the open category.

All India Windsurfing Championship 2024 (Chennai, July): Won gold in the U-19 girls category.

YAI Junior Nationals 2024 (5-10 August, Mysore): Secured another gold medal in the U-19 girls category.

In a short span, I have won 4 gold medals and 1 bronze at national championships, representing the Odisha Yachting Association and my state Odisha with pride. I am committed to continuing my training and aiming for more national and international titles in the future. With the support of the Odisha Yachting Association and the Government of Odisha, I aspire to achieve new heights in windsurfing.
